Buried at Sea

By Mark Salvestro

A play with songs

A one-man show interweaving ancestry, letters, songs and storytelling, told from the perspective of the playwright.

★★★★1/2
“Hilarious, touching and wrenching in all its honesty.”

Roberto Chuter,

Arts Hub

Buried at Sea is an intimate coming-of-age tale inspired by the life of Mark Salvestro’s Great, Great Uncle George, who died in Gallipoli in World War I.

Mark takes audiences on a nostalgic and romantic trip through time, as he strives to uncover the life of his long-lost ancestor whom he is a spitting image of.

Interweaving historical archives, letters, songs and personal experience, Buried at Sea follows a touching journey of obsession in search of simplicity in a long-gone era.

How far can you reach into the past before you lose sight of the present?

An incredible energy that is undefinable ... not once losing sight of his role on stage and romanticising the crowd until the very end.
